♏ Profile
IC Information;
Character Name; Evelyn Diane Samson
Age; 17
Appearance;
Eve stands at around a height of 5'10", with moderate curves, moderate breasts, and a thin but fairly toned build. Her skin is naturally tanned, although darkened due to sun exposure in her arms, legs and neck area. While her hair is naturally blond, she's taken to dyeing it green just for kicks. Other than that, her eyes are gray and she tends to dress in darker or neutral colors.
All in all, she looks like this! For her main PB, I'll be using a slightly edited Mei Tachibana from Suki tte Ii Na Yo.
House;
For several reasons, I believe Eve would fit best in Baldr. While she isn't exactly full of herself (or at least, aside from thinking she's hot shit look at that body gurl), she tends to judge others based on appearances and not take them seriously more often than not. She insults others with surprising ease when they do things she considers stupid regardless of the context, and has this unfortunate mindset that things will never come out right unless she takes matters into her own hands. While she could, perhaps fit in another house like Odin, I believe her ridiculously low esteem in others (which makes her self esteem high by default, more or less) makes her an easy fit for Baldr.
Power; Regeneration.
World Info;
The world Eve comes from is superficially similar to our own Earth, circa 2007. When it comes to things like pop culture, technology and medicine, everything is the same as it was for us during that year, although there are some anachronistic things floating around. However, these anachronisms are nothing that heavily affects the story aside from foreshadowing that the Earth Eve resides in is a prototype version of Earth, and can easily be missed by someone who isn't paying close attention. In the later sections of the story she is part of, her version of Earth is referred to as the Delta (Δ) Timeline. That is, in reference to gene deletion.
Now, there are several major differences from our Earth that aren't apparent at first. This being because, in-story, normal human beings aren't aware of them at all. These differences are:
Although Eve resides in the side of the Veil that is very much decidedly human, she is one of the few humans to learn about the existence of these details. She's not very happy about them, considering that now she knows there could be a giant space slug with five sets of breasts walking in the same space as her in a different reality, but it's something she deals with.
Background;
Eve is born in Poughkeepsie, New York to parents of mixed ethnicity. Although she does not resent her childhood, it wasn't exactly the best, what with her mother and father constantly screaming and throwing things at each other while she and her brother hid from it all. This more or less continued up until she was 8-years-old, when her big brother, Michael (nicknamed "Mickey"), went missing and her father's dismissive attitude was the final straw that made Eve's mother realize she really hated the man. Packing all of his bags, her mother kicked out him out, filled a divorce, and within two years time Eve and her mother had moved to a cozy apartment in Whipstaff, much more nearer to other family members and also the boy who was both her cousin and best friend, Drake Bakers.
That very same year, when she was 10-years-old, her brother reappeared right at their front door. Something was wrong, however, and he didn't even recognize her or their mother. In fact, he didn't even know his name or understand many of the things he knew before or were basic knowledge for any human being. He was simply confused. Even though this should have been alarming for various reasons that were constantly explained to her, Eve was more relieved by the fact that her dear big brother was finally back and not going away any time soon. Unfortunately, because their mother was still trying to sort out her life, Eve found herself taking on the role of an honorary big sister and taking care of her brother, mother and all of the housework. It was difficult, but she never found herself minding it.
When she's 12, she's introduced to the internet and a number of things that would become important in her life later on. Namely, a boy named Alexander who claimed to be sickly and her same age. They meet through a chat client known as Uvu (similar to a mash up between AIM and Omegle), when they both decide to make use of the "randomized partner" function. Clicking instantly and quickly adding each other to their contact lists, they used to Uvu to speak with each other every single day and confide things that they would not tell to anybody else in their lives. He was a boy that she could only contact through a computer screen, but she found herself trusting him more than anybody else in her life. Even though she hadn't realized it, and despite never seeing his face (due to something about shyness, terrible scarring and his father abhorring cameras), she had grown to like him as more than a friend.
Back in the world of physical social interactions, however, Eve continues to grow up alongside her cousin, going to the same grade at the same school. Seeing as they've known each other since they were in diapers, Eve treats him like an annoying little sibling and Drake makes it his life duty to fulfill that role with gusto. When they start middle school, they meet the girl who would later become Drake's girlfriend--a tiny hispanic girl named Olivia Stephans who loves gymnastics and has a boner for Keanu Reeves. She and Eve discover they both share a love for the Matrix films, bond, Eve writes her smut fanfiction about Keanu's various roles, and a friendship is formed. When they hit high school, Olivia and Drake hook up and Eve suddenly feels like her two baby siblings are getting their incest on in front of her.
During that same freshman year, they meet two other girls. One is Rachel Park, a girl with Korean parents who was raised in the USA, is interested in fashion and rubs her face against cold glass panes when people ask her for KPop recs when she tells them she’s Korean. The other is Lucretia Gore (nicknamed "Lulu"), a very serious and dedicated girl, who comes from a military family and is very popular between her peers for her intelligence and good looks. All together, these five characters (Olivia, Drake, Eve, Lulu and Rachel) form a proper Five Man Band as they all come to discover the reality about their world and the existence of Empyreal.
Eve's first encounter with the supernatural comes in the form of one (1) ghost boy named Duke Rigby and one (1) gigantic ugly slimy beast that was hot on his trail. Needless to say, with him phasing through her bedroom wall and subsequently crashing into her to scream and pretend he can protect her from that thing even as it proceeded to grab them and drag them outside into an alleyway, she was less than amused and very much freaked out. However, because Duke was attempting to use Scorpio (a familiar very ill suited for his personality), he lost with laughable ease and Eve could have sworn she was going to die at that very moment. Before that could happen, however, a little nagging funny intuition in her head told her to pick up the trinket he had been trying to fight with, and so she did. Almost instantly as she touched it, the trinket became a staff and dragged her along for the ride of attacking the ugly slime beast. As soon as it was dead, the staff became a bracelet stuck to her right wrist and did not allow her to remove it.
Freaked out as she was, she somehow found it in herself to drag Duke (who was still unconscious) back up to her apartment and try to tend to him. In true asshole fashion, when he wakes up he complains about her first aid, demands she returns Scorpio to him, and then threatens to return with an army to torture and kill her when she tells him it's stuck on her arm. She assumes this means the guy is scared witless of the fact that she kicked ass when he couldn't, but she's left a bit numb from the experience when he leaves and simply sits on the bathroom floor until her big brother comes home. She clings to him, babbles, and oddly enough, he calms her down, gives her some tea, and lets her sleep with him in his bedroom.
The next day, when she wakes up, her room is back in one piece and there aren’t any residues from the fight. She tries to ask Mickey about it, but he simply tells her someone placed hallucinogens in the A/C system and that she shouldn't worry about it. She doesn't buy this at all, but out of respect for her big brother, she bears with it and goes to school. Still clearly out of it, she doesn't pay attention to anything until the teacher introduces a new student. That student being, in true cliche fashion, Duke Rigby. As it turns out, because the current Emperor does not approve of Duke's request to kill a human over a Familiar, he was sent to Earth to pose as a human and keep an eye on both her safety and the safety of Scorpio--this would become his new duty as the sin of Pride. Along with this knowledge, she is also told about Empyreal, the Veil, and what her new weapon is.
Although she's not exactly happy with being stuck with Duke now, she soon finds a use for her new found magical weapon when she discovers there are monsters invading the Earth through the cracks in the Veil, and of course other beings who are causing said cracks in the Veil. Throughout various months, her friends discover Empyreal, gain Familiars of their own, and there is rarely a day when they don't wake up, go to school, and then save the world.
In the point in her story where I am taking her from, of course, she and Duke have kind admitted to each other than they might be a couple, and she is in the process quite literally forgetting about Alexander. This is because the longer Duke stays on Earth, the weaker Alexander becomes, as they both are one half of the same person. The same stands true for Duke, but vice versa. As such, Eve has barely even noticed that Alexander hasn't logged in for weeks. Also not mentioned in the background above (as Eve is still ways off from discovering this), Eve is not a human. Or, at least, not entirely. She is actually the expy of the human that is currently powering the Veil, and is acting as her ears and eyes in ensuring that the Outers and the Veil are destroyed. Unfortunately for Eve, she has no idea that she began to act as homing beacon for the ones responsible for speeding up the destruction of the Veil from the moment she picked Scorpio up.
For now, however, as far as she knows she is Evelyn Diane Samson. One hundred percent human and nothing more.
Personality;
Upon first meeting Eve, many will say she seems like a serious (albeit friendly and responsible) young girl. And, well. For the most part, that seems to be true.
When it comes to first impressions, Eve always make sure to give her best one. She always makes sure to display a perfect smile, perfect hair, perfect look, and perfect everything. To display anything less would be a disgrace, and far below her own personal expectations. She speaks in an even and clear tone, making sure she sounds as amicable as possible without coming off as a ditz or overly bubbly, and never raises her voice above a certain level. She expects to be heard regardless of how loudly she speaks, after all, and those who can't hear her would only have themselves to blame for not paying enough attention. You could say this kind of mentality presents itself in the way she carries herself around strangers. She does not allow her posture to relax in the slightest, preferring to remain perfectly poised regardless of how uncomfortable her back may feel, and always speaks in a certain tone that implies she deserves all of the attention and respect in the world. Some may find this to be slightly condescending on her behalf, but she would have to disagree with that.
Around those she is more comfortable with and infinitely closer to, her demeanor changes ever so slightly. Her posture becomes relaxed, slumping and giving her a much more laid back look, and she allows herself to show a wider range of facial expressions--ones that aren't geared towards gaining respect or being condescending. She cracks witty jokes, make sarcastic remarks, and even bluntly voices her disdain for things in ways that others who don't know her would find rude. This relaxed attitude even presents itself in her online habits, wherein she stops fretting so much over perfect punctuation and grammar to feel superior, and allows herself to start using internet slang and stop using the shift key. All in all, she takes a small breather from making sure others know that she is a mature and dignified individual (but not entirely, as she has a reputation to maintain), and begins to focus on embracing the moment she spends with another. Granted, of course, that they are not overly grating for her tastes.
Following up on her need to make a fine first impression, Eve is very fashion and appearance conscious. She values physical appearances greatly, which makes her much more vain than she would ever admit. While she does not dress to be overly eye catching and flashy (her taste in hair dyes aside, of course), she does make sure to dress in a way that is easy on the eyes, yet gives off a certain impression that she is a level headed person. Fashion is a bit of a passion for her, and she takes care to make sure that she is up to date with the latest fashion trends and must have items of the season.
Still, this initial impression of a shallow and vain teenager is only scratching the surface of who Evelyn Samson really is.
Due to a childhood full of witnessing the adults in her life make stupid life choices and regretting them, Eve developed a rather bleak outlook on life. That outlook being, of course, that regardless of what you achieve during your life, once you graduate from high school you will be doomed to a slow and embittering decline into becoming a dull and uninteresting human being who will eventually lose everyone they supposedly loved and die a boring and anonymous death. She holds no harsh feelings towards this, and in fact, embraces it fully as another little known tidbit of life. Because of this, Eve has build herself around this sort of ideal to avoid the crushing disappointment later in life. To avoid the pitfall of maturing too late to figure this out, she has shaped her personality to be what she believes a "perfect mature adult" is--a shallow and socially obsessed creature who demands attention regardless of the situation. She believes herself to be superior than those who have real goals and dreams (as her own chalk up to ending up in a loveless marriage with two children and becoming a housewife), and is quick to judge those who believe in true love and an entertaining job as childish and immature. She does not believe in a thing such as "happy endings", and if prodded about it, will not hesitate to state how ridiculous and stupid she finds the notion of them to be.
However, as can be easily seen, Eve is not nearly as mature as she would claim to be. She is still an emotionally immature girl, who tried to grow up too fast due to being pushed into the role of a big sister while all the adults in her life kept disappointing her in several aspects that she used to look forward to. Even though she tries her hardest to keep up with her facade of being a friendly, laid back and mellow young woman, the fact is that she is incredibly emotional deep inside. Despite the fact that she would rather choke than admit it, it's not all that hard a feat to make her agitated, flustered, embarrassed or angry enough to cause her to blow a fuse and display something other than her usual dry wit or casual friendliness. And, well, while she finds her emotional outbursts easy to clean up, if there is one thing that messes her collected attitude more than anything, it is people who make her feel things.
Regardless of whether it is worry, relief, love, or anything else, she absolutely hates it when she is made to feel things that she simply doesn't want to experience. Being the "mature" adult she wants to believe she is, she hates the thought that she's emotionally dependent on another person in the slightest and becomes irritated when it happens. For example, one of the biggest reasons why she's so rude towards Duke is simply that he makes her feel a plethora of things that she doesn't like. This makes it incredibly easy for her to slip up and start insulting him and raising her voice at him. Still, this isn't a universal constant and there are people who she simply can't get irritated at for causing her to feel strong emotions like these. She can't get angry at people who are simply too pitiable or friendly, and this is a factor in why she can't get annoyed at her brother (who she's overprotective of) or Alexander (who she also has feelings for, but his attitude is radically less grating than Duke's).
Even though it might not be apparent from her general attitude, Eve cares a lot for her friends and family. Yes, she insults them and treats them like they're all her annoying little siblings, but that's just her way of displaying her affection for them. It's somewhat of a habit, born from the fact that she had to take care of her brother when young as well as the fact that her best friends are both younger than herself, and not necessarily something she does on purpose to be rude. While she does call them out on things she considers stupid, she never does so in a condescending tone. She's gained their permanent attention, more or less, and so have they. In a way, this means she considers them slightly less stupid than the rest of the human race, and that is a step up.
Still, even though she would never admit it, Eve has developed a fear of people she knows disappearing. This is due to her brother's disappearing act when she was young, although she has yet to link it, exactly. Regardless, because of this she has developed a weekly habit of calling and checking up on people she is close to in order to make sure they're alright and around. If they don't respond after a while, she becomes anxious and worried, which leads to a cycle of getting mad at them when they eventually do reappear. Some people might call this behavior "clingy", but she simply regards it as "keeping in touch". After all, it's not like she depends on her friends. All she does is do them a favor and remind them to stay social creatures and not slip into the life of a hermit, really. That is all there is to it.
When it comes to judging new people and situations, Eve tends to trust her gut feeling more than information she has gathered from other sources. That is not to say, of course, that she disregards that information completely, but simply that she puts more faith in what she feels rather than what she knows. Thankfully, she has the advantage of being a good judge of character as well as being incredibly street savvy. However, because of her dependency on her gut feeling, she tends to be impulsive at times without properly examining the consequences of her actions. This, along with the fact that she acts before reacting, makes a dangerous duo that is responsible for her involvement with Empyreal in the first place. Needless to say, she is firmly stuck on the fight side of the fight or flight dilemma.
Lately, with her recent involvement with the supernatural, Eve's view on life has started to change little by little. Even though she has consciously clung to the idea that once the Veil is under control her life will resume its path towards anonymity, she still keeps a vague sort of hope that maybe there is another end to life that doesn't involve crushing disappointment and a loveless marriage. She has begun to flaunt her dry sarcasm and wit more openly, even when sticking to her act of shallow mature perfection, and has even gone back to writing horrible porn fanfiction for her friends and abusing Comic Sans to annoy forum goers. Even though the fact that she's now getting attacked by supernatural abominations on a daily basis should, in theory, make her more detached from things, it has actually created the opposite effect in her personality. While she still has a long way to go with her low esteem of others and need for maturity, she has slowly begun to genuinely enjoy having "childish" fun in life and simply living the moment.
And, hey, maybe that's alright for now.

Now, there are several major differences from our Earth that aren't apparent at first. This being because, in-story, normal human beings aren't aware of them at all. These differences are:
THE VEIL: Beyond written human history, humans and supernatural beings of great power once lived together in harmony on a single reality known as Dioneo. However, because humans had no special abilities of their own to speak of, the careful balance between humans and these beings slowly shifted into chaos throughout the years. Before they realized what was happening, the humans soon found themselves as meager workers with no position of power or voice to speak of. Even for manual labor, they were discriminated. After all, a being that could simply part the earth with a snap of their fingers was much more cost effective than a human who required tools and so forth.
Eventually, having grown tired and frustrated from this treatment, the humans rallied together to confront the Emperor of Dioneo. The Emperor, finally realizing the plight of the humans, sought the help of ancient beings who oversaw reality for counseling. From this, a solution was born. The humans would live on one reality called "Earth", and the supernatural beings on another reality known as "Empyreal". While they both technically resided on the same planet, the group of ancient beings (known as the Outers, as they exist outside of all space and time) created the Veil. This creation would make it so the humans and Empyreans would exist on separate planes of reality for all eternity, as long as the Veil was not purposely weakened. However, to make this solution function, there were sacrifices to be made. Every 80 years or so, a group of humans would be selected to serve as sacrifices in a game, where only one of them would triumph and become the power source for the Veil. In return, the Empyreans would sacrifice seven of their own, having them go against vices that are form an essentially part of themselves and training them to protect the Veil so humans could continue to live in ignorant bliss without knowledge of Empyreal's existence.
THE EMPYREANS: The Empyreans, more accurately likened to aliens, are all responsible for the supernatural myths human beings hold today. Creatures that highly resemble (and, for the sake of convenience, are referred to as) ghosts, genies, vampires, liches and many others exist in Empyreal. All creatures known in modern myth are either an existing Empyrean race or some misunderstanding of it, with the addition of a species known as the Speakers. The Speakers are sexless creatures created by the Outers specifically to fulfill one of the roles in guarding the Veil, and they act as their eyes, ears and voice in Empyreal. They have no personality upon creation, but slowly acquire one through socializing with those around them and investigating their surroundings.
THE GAME: Because of its nature, the Veil naturally begins to weaken and a new human sacrifice is needed to revive it. As such, a group of humans is selected to be removed from Earth every 80 to 90 years. They are brought to Empyreal, where they are transformed into creatures known as Scribblers, and all traces of their existence on Earth is instantly removed. In Empyreal, they are each destined to live through a fantastic adventure of self discovery, before they are all united to bring peace and prosperity as the new rulers of Empyreal. However, this is only for a limited time. In the end, they will always find misfortune and only one of them will survive. Previously, there are two story relevant games: one where 22 humans were selected, and one where 13 humans were selected. At the current time where Eve is from, the Veil is weakening and soon 4 more humans will be selected.
"FAMILIARS": Although not quite the kind of familiars most would think of, every time a Scribbler completes the ultimate goal of their adventure, they will be given the ability to create one single weapon using the emotions they have felt during their life in Empyreal. While other sets of familiars have been lost to time, there are currently two plot relevant sets in-story: the Tarocchi familiars (from the 22 player game) and the Zodiacal familiars (from the 13 player game). When dormant, the familiars take the form of a keyring with a simple symbol on it. When in use, they have the capability to transform into a wide array of weapons depending on the user.
However, because these weapons are formed from emotions, they are very emotive themselves. If the person using it has a personality that clashes with the creator of the Familiar, then it will become a very weak weapon. However, if one who has a personality that melds perfectly with the creator, the Familiar will take it's true form--that being the weapon it became when it's creator used it. In addition to this, when such a person uses the Familiar, it will become attached to their body in the form of a piece of jewlery and it will become impossible to remove unless they die. Currently, Eve has "Scorpio" attached to her right arm in the form of a simple bracelet with a "♏" shaped charm hanging from it.
THE SEVEN SINS AND SEVEN GUARDIANS: Just like human sacrifices are needed to keep the Veil working, Empyreal needs to provide seven sacrifices of their own to keep it safe. Selecting six young children from any species (the current line up being one ghost, one vampire, one genie, one lich, one succubus and one incubus) along with one Speaker, these children are forced to ignore the vices that are common and often necessary for their species. For example, a succubus or incubus could be selected to represent Lust, which is potentially fatal to them, as their species thrives on frequent sexual contact with others to keep themselves alive. However, once all seven of them have matured, their titles are changed to their respective virtue and they are tasked with making sure no one threatens the Veil. Currently, three out of seven guardians are alive and five out of seven sins are alive.
WHIPSTAFF: Fictional town set somewhere in New York, and the place where most of the story takes place. This town only exists in the Delta Timeline, and is erased after the Delta Timeline ceases to exist.
